Top retainer broke in half?

Well today when I was taking out my top retainer, its one of the ones that has the metal thing that goes across your front teeth and little hooks on the back. Well anyways I dropped it in the sink, and I have done this a couple of times, but for some reason this time. It broke cleanly in half right where the metal comes out at. Well I called my Orthodontist and they are extremely busy and won't be able to get in back in to get me a new one, for 12 days, and they are the ones that take a while to make. So I am just really worried that my 4 years of wearing braces and being humiliated, is all going to be ruined because of a slip of the hand and a stupid sink. So my question is, how fast do you're teeth move back into place after about 1 1/2 years with no braces, and wearing retainers at night? Someone please help and answer this for me. Is there something that I can do to make sure they don't move or something? Please and thank you!
