Can You Laminate Paper With Plastic Wrap using an Iron?

Can You take sheets of Saran Wrap and put them on paper and iron them on so the paper doesn't get ruined and will be pretty much waterproof? And then wrap it around the edges, etc. Will that work or is a laminating machine necessary??
