Second year gardening. Ideas?

I did a 8x4 raised bed last year and planted tomatoes, cubers, eggplant, and strawberries. The strawberries put out a lot of foliage and spread out a lot but didnt produce any fruit. The tomato plants exploded and I got a very nice crop from them. The rest died quickly. For this year I am hoping to have everything I plant live and hopefully produce some healthy homegrown food for me. Any ideas for which veggies would be good for a newbie like myself? Which ones did you stick with when you were just getting started? Thanks.
