How should I dress when I go clubbing in Montreal for New Year's Eve?

I am a male and I just turned 20. I am going up to Montreal for two nights with some of my boys and our lady friends and I don't know what is appropriate dress. We are going to be hitting up many different clubs and bars, but I don't want to under or overdress. I wanted to wear slacks, a shirt and tie, and a suit vest, but my friends seem to think that is too cly for this. Any suggestions?
