What are the biggest energy consumers in a two-story house?
The biggest energy consumers would be the two AC units, the electric hot water heater, gas heater and the double gas ovens. The fridges, gas hot water heaters, and wine coolers are big draws too but the gas oven's problem is that ever since pilot lights were outlawed for gas ovens, a glow plug or wire has been the least expensive way of safely ensuring the gas gets lit but a glow plug or wire consumes 300 Watts in electricity all the time whether you use the oven or not. The microwave, toaster and toaster ovens are actually quite efficient and only draw power when actually used. Most new homes have the dishwasher on a wall switch so you can cut power to it when not in use. The yard sprinkler uses a small amount of electricity for the timer and apart from that uses water pressure from the water company's pumps so it's using their power.
