Can you use workable fixative to get paint to adhere to gl?

I'm refinishing a old window pane into a picture frame and I need to paint a little on the gl itself but I'm having trouble getting the paint to stick. I know I can go get a paint medium that will allow me to paint on the gl, but I was seeing if I could avoid another trip to the store. (Which is 30-40min away.)
